چکیده

Speckle is a granular noise that inherently exists in and degrades the quality of ultrasound images. It generally tends to reduce the resolution and contrast, thereby, to degrade the diagnostic accuracy of this modality. Speckle reduction is one of the most important processes to enhance the quality of ultrasound images. This paper proposes a statistical filter, which is a modified version of Hybrid Median Filter for speckle reduction, which computes the median of the diagonal elements and maximum of the horizontal and vertical elements in a moving window and finally the two values are compared with the central pixel and the median value of the three values will be the new pixel value. The filter is tested on phantom Ultrasound image. Effectiveness of the proposed filter is compared on the basis of Peak Signal to Noise Ratio(PSNR),Root Mean Square Error(RMSE) ,Structure Similarity Index(SSI), Image Quality Index(QI) and Edge Preservation Factor(EPF) .The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed filter can reduce the speckle noise effectively without blurring the edges. Keywords— granular noise, ultrasound image, speckle reduction, hybrid median filter, statistical filter.

Comparison of Filters for Despeckle With Improved Speckle Reducing Antiscopic Diffusion Filter for Ultrasound Images

---Due to the presence of speckle noise leads to the poor quality of the US images. The presence of speckle noise makes it difficult to understand the information contain in the US image hence filtering of US image is required to improve the image quality. The paper gives us the comparison of different filters techniques (linear filter (lf),Anisotropic Diffusion(AD),Nonlinear filter kuwahara(Ku...

A new Speckle Noise Reduction Technique to Suppress Speckle in Ultrasound Images

Medical images like ultrasound images are generally corrupted by speckle noise during their acquisition and transmission. The impact of speckle noise reduces the diagnostic value of the medical image modality. Thus, a speckle noise reduction technique is necessary for the suppression of noise and to retain the fine details from the corrupted image. In this article, a new speckle noise reduction...

An adaptive window hybrid median filter for despeckling of medical ultrasound images

Speckle is a random multiplicative noise which obscures the perception and extraction of fine details in ultrasound image and despeckling is necessary for better diagnosis. The main aim of despeckling is to keep the important features such as edges of the ultrasound image. In this paper an adaptive window hybrid median filter is proposed for despeckling of medical ultrasound images. In the prop...

Speckle Noise Reduction for the Enhancement of Retinal Layers in Optical Coherence Tomography Images

Introduction One of the most important pre-processing steps in optical coherence tomography (OCT) is reducing speckle noise, resulting from multiple scattering of tissues, which degrades the quality of OCT images. Materials and Methods The present study focused on speckle noise reduction and edge detection techniques. Statistical filters with different masks and noise variances were applied on ...

Medical Ultrasound Image Speckle Noise Reduction by Adaptive Median Filter

Medical ultrasound is a powerful nonivasive diagnostics tool. Due to physical factors of the diagnostics system, ultrasound generated images usually contain some noise where specle noise is often a prominent component. In this paper we propose an adaptive median filter with adaptive window size for removing speckle noise from ultrasound medical images, including the case when spots are larger t...
